Transparent ceramics are widely used in civil and military fields, such as transparent armor, infrared window, high power laser media, white light lighting phosphors, and in medical devices and so on, due to their excellent optical, mechanical and thermal properties which are comparable to those of single crystals. Pores are the mainly affect optical transmittance of transparent ceramics, and HIP (hot isostatic pressing) is one of the effective way to eliminate pores to obtain high quality transparent ceramics. In this paper, the achievements and mechanisms of the research on transparent ceramics by HIP are reviewed, and the development of transparent ceramics post treated by HIP are discussed and prospected. |
